Double Bay (Restaurant) – Australian dining and bar

Double Bay

Had lunch with my best friend on Friday at Raffles City, Double Bay restaurant to be exact cause I’ve been wanting to try it out for some time now. The place looks nice in the day, a little extension greenhouse like building just outside Raffles City, facing Raffles Hotel. The ambience nice, except that since the place isn’t very big, the lunch time crowd can get a tad noisy on occasion. However the seats (inside) are really comfortable sofa like arm chairs thankfully proportionate in height to the table.

The food was pretty impressive actually. I had the Vongole and my best friend had the Seafood Linguini. Both dishes were very well done – the pasta was just the right texture and the sauce was tasty and not too overpowering. For dessert, we shared a sticky date pudding. That was decent – I wouldn’t call it fantastic but it was tasty enough. But the coffee was excellent needless to say the expresso shot was just right – not under or over and they serve it with both brown and white sugar cubes – how cool is that!

Food

I was rather pleased with the service as well. Our food came together at the same time, the staff were prompt and we were attended to with minimal waiting. Even when waiting for my friend to arrive, one of the waiters offered me a glass of water first while I waited, this I found was very pleasant.

Now of course the very important question of price – the place was quite pricy for a bistro. Their pastas were around $19-$22 which, compared to other italian restaurants, is a little on the high side. The main courses are around $26-$30+. So yes not very cheap, but I suppose for the service and the food it was fairly reasonable. All in all we spent around $77.

The verdict: I’d go back again. It’s a nice comfortable place to wind down with friends and enjoy pretty good food and good service.

Double Bay Restaurant is located at: 252 North Bridge Road, #01-22A, Raffles City Shopping Centre
